Regé-Jean Page

Page was born in London[3][4][5] to a Zimbabwean mother who was a nurse and an English father who was a preacher.[6] He is the second youngest of four children and was in a band with his little brother.[7]

Page spent his childhood in Harare, Zimbabwe before returning to London for secondary school.[8] He opened up about his childhood, “my family was rather spread out — I have family in South Africa, Australia, Sweden, Grenada, Florida — so you make pit stops and you grow your perspective.” Speaking of Zimbabwe, he said, “It’s the most beautiful place in the world. Everyone says this about their own country, but it’s objectively beautiful. And because it was so young I think there’s a genuine generosity in people from Zimbabwe, which is slowly being chipped away at, as we hit our terrible teens and realise the world is a harsh, cold, difficult place that one must be strong enough to survive."[9]

After returning to the UK, Page took up acting as a hobby during Saturday school.[10] He says the National Youth Theatre changed his trajectory. After two years of auditioning, Page was accepted to Drama Centre London, graduating in 2013.

Page began his career on stage, appearing in The History Boys and The Merchant of Venice opposite Jonathan Pryce.[11] He also starred in the final season of BBC Three drama series Waterloo Road in 2015.

In 2016, Page made his American debut playing the role of Chicken George in the History Channel big budget miniseries Roots, a remake of the 1977 miniseries with the same name, based on Alex Haley's 1976 novel, Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The series and Page's performance received critical acclaim.[12][13][14] Also that year, he was cast as a male lead in the ABC pilot Spark.[15] The following year, he was cast in the Shonda Rhimes-produced legal drama series For the People.[16][17] The series was canceled after two seasons in 2019. Page also appeared in the 2018 post-apocalyptic film Mortal Engines and had a supporting role with Tessa Thompson in the 2020 drama film Sylvie's Love.[18] He later was cast in a male leading role in the Shonda Rhimes-produced period drama series Bridgerton for Netflix.[19][20]
