Stephen Deuchar

Sir Stephen John Deuchar CBE (born 11 March 1957) is a British arts administrator, and was director of the UK's Art Fund from 2010 to 2020.[1]

He was born 11 March 1957, son of Rev. John Deuchar and Nancy Dorothea Deuchar (née Jenkyns).[2] He was educated at Dulwich College, and earned a BA degree in history from the University of Southampton, and a PhD in the history of art from Westfield College, London, in 1986. [2]

Deuchar was the first director of Tate Britain in London, from 1998 to 2010.[1] In 2010, he became director of the UK's Art Fund.[1] he stood down on 31 March 2020.[1]

He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours for services to the arts[3] and was knighted in the 2021 New Year Honours, also for services to the arts.[4][5]

In 1982, he married Prof Katie Scott, and they have one son, and three daughters.[2]
