2001 Big West Tournament[1] winner

The Vandals were 6–21 overall and 3–13 in conference play, tied for seventh in the standings. They lost the tiebreaker for the final berth in the conference tournament to Cal Poly. Idaho had qualified for the tourney in the previous three seasons.

The Cowan Spectrum (configuration inside the Kibbie Dome) debuted late in the season with a victory over rival Boise State, which drew a season-high attendance of 5,184 on Saturday, February 17,[2][3]

Farrar was fired by athletic director Mike Bohn days after the regular season ended;[4] he was succeeded by alumnus Leonard Perry, an assistant at Iowa State, regular season champions of the Big 12 Conference.[5][6]
