The tournament was originally to be held in Venezuela between 15 April – 3 May 2020.[1][2] However, CONMEBOL announced on 10 March 2020 that it would instead be held in Uruguay.[3]

CONMEBOL decided on 19 March 2020 that the tournament would be postponed to late August and early September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4] On 1 June 2020, CONMEBOL announced that the tournament would be further postponed to November.[5] On 6 August 2020, CONMEBOL confirmed that the tournament would be played between 30 November – 19 December 2020.[6] On 30 October 2020, CONMEBOL further postponed the tournament to January 2021.[7]

The top three teams of the tournament would have qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup (originally 2020 but postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic) in India as the CONMEBOL representatives.[8] However, FIFA announced on 17 November 2020 that this edition of the World Cup would be cancelled.[9] After the cancellation of the World Cup, it has not been confirmed if the tournament would still be played, and as of February 2021, no announcement by CONMEBOL had been made.

Brazil are the defending champions.
