50th Infantry Regiment (Bolivia)
The 50th Infantry Regiment (Cuchilleros de la Muerte) was a Bolivian infantry regiment that fought in the Chaco War. Nicknamed the Cuchillos de la Muerte (Knives of Death), the personell were recruited from Bolivian prisons and under command from Army officers and Police officers.
The regiment was founded by Bernardino Bilbao Rioja after he found the remains of 20 bodies of Bolivian soldiers. The worst possible officers and seasoned criminals were recruited into this regiment.
