Abel Aguilar Elizalde

Abel Aguilar Elizalde (born 5 August 1929 in Veracruz, Mexico) was a Mexican international football referee.[1] He was the first Mexican referee to officiate a World Cup match.[2][3]

Career

He was FIFA referee in 1968-1971. He officiated 5 international matches. He refereed a group stage match in World Cup 1970 played between Germany-Peru (3:1), two matches in World Cup 1970 qualifying (CONCACAF zone)[4] He also officiated a match in 1968 Olympic Games. He attributed 2 international friendly matches in 1968-69 which all of them were Mexico's matches against Soviet Union and Italy in Mexico.

Personal life

Abel Aguilar Elizalde awarded for being an example that he was first Mexican referee who officiated World Cup match.[5]
