Early life

Lavorgna was born near New Haven, in North Branford, Connecticut, the son of Sandra (née Schnepf), a college professor, and Joseph LaVorgna, a high school assistant principal.[1][2] Raised with his three siblings in North Branford, LaVorgna has been appearing on television and film since the early age of three when he first appeared on the daytime series As the World Turns.

Other television work included the role of a young Frank Sinatra at the age of ten in the miniseries Sinatra, a role as a witness to a bank robbery in a 1995 episode of Matlock ("The Getaway") and appearances in the miniseries Degree of Guilt and Blood Brothers: The Joey DiPaolo Story, along with an episode of the HBO series Lifestories: Families in Crisis.

Lavorgna attended high school at the athletic powerhouse Avon Old Farms in Avon, Connecticut. He also enrolled at Boston College, prior to leaving the school after his freshman year to pursue acting, specifically, 7th Heaven.[3]

He received his bachelor's degree in 2011 from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Career

Lavorgna starred as Nicholas Scamperelli in the series Brooklyn Bridge, for which he received the 1993 Youth in Film Award for Best Actor. He then joined 7th Heaven as a series regular portraying Robbie Palmer, Mary's (Jessica Biel) troubled ex-boyfriend who has moved into the family home. He left the show in 2002. LaVorgna recalled his choice to leave was due to having a hard time managing his way around Hollywood, California, in addition to missing his family, mutually agreeing with the staff of 7th Heaven for a dismissal. He returned to the East Coast of the US subsequently.[4]

Lavorgna has a number of film roles to his credit, including I'll Be Home for Christmas, The Beautician and the Beast, Milk Money, Monkey Trouble; and Blast. He appeared in two independent features: Outside Providence and The Bumblebee Flies Away... LaVorgna can be recently seen in the Lifetime/A&E movie "Stealing Chanel" on demand and currently on the hit Starz show "Power".

Personal life

Lavorgna said he was raised in Catholicism by his grandmother but became distant from the faith with age: "I got away from church at 15–16, and by my mid-20s, I was lost."[5] Of returning to the faith, LaVorgna said, "Once I matured enough to face God, to look at Him, for Him to be proud, once I started doing that, my life turned around. It was slow, but on a steady incline."[6]
