Alexandra Golby

Alexandra Golby is a neurosurgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and a professor of neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. She was appointed to the Haley Distinguished Chair in the Neurosciences at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.[1]

Career

Golby made a comment about a long standing big question in cognitive science. What, exactly, is consciousness? She says, "If you had asked me that as an upper mid, I would have been able to tell you; but the more I learn, the less certain I am."[2]

Accomplishments and awards

Golby’s accomplishments and awards include: National Merit Scholar (1985-1989); Scholl Foundation Scholar (1991-1992); Stanford Medical Scholar (1991-1992); Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship US Dept. of Education 1993-1994 Emge Traveling Scholar, Stanford University School of Medicine (1992-1994); American Heart Association, Student Scholarship in Cerebrovascular Disease (1992-1993); National Research Service Award, NIH (1991-2001); Congress of Neurological Surgeons Dandy Clinical Fellowship (2002); Temporary member BMIT NIH study section (2004-2005); Diplomate, American Board of Neurological Surgeons (2007); CIMIT Young Clinicians Award (2008); Brigham and Women’s Hospital inaugural recipient New Innovators Award (2010-2011) [3]
