Ali Akbar (director)

Ali Akbar (born 20 February 1963) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and lyricist who works in Malayalam cinema.[1][2][3][4] He directed more than 20 Malayalam movies, including Grama Panchayath,Bamboo Boys, Junior Mandrake, Kudumba Vaarthakal and Pai Brothers.[5][6][7][8][9] In 2020, Ali Akbar announced a new movie to be produced through crowd funding. Movie name is 1921-Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare, based on the 1921 Malabar Hindu Genocide occurred in the Northern Kerala. Ali Akbar received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director in the year 1988 for the movie Mamalakalkkappurathu.

Personal life

Ali Akbar has contested in 2014 parliament elections from Vatakara constituency in the Aam Aadmi Party banner.[10] He contested in the election to the Kozhikode Corporation as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate.[11]

In 2015, Akbar said that he was a victim of child sexual abuse, he was abused by an usthad (teacher) at his madrasa at Meenangadi, Wayanad when he was eight years old.[12][13]
