The American Career Institute officially closed its doors on January 9, 2013.[1] On November 21 of that year the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Attorney General Martha Coakley filed a suit against the school, alleging that it falsified grades and attendance records to qualify for millions of dollars in federal aid.[2][3] ACI was found to be a predatory, for-profit institution, and students who had used student loans to finance their attendance were relieved of their debt.[4]
