Aminomethyl group
In organic chemistry, an aminomethyl group is a monovalent functional group with formula −CH
2−NH
2 or −CH
4N. It can be described as a methylene bridge −CH
2− with one bond filled by an amino group −NH
2.
It is one of a series of 1-aminoalkyl groups of the form −(CH
2−)
nNH
2.[1]
Aminomethyl is used in the standard (IUPAC) names of some compounds,[2] such as 4-(aminomethyl) benzoic acid.
