History

«The year of construction is not clearly indicated. ... An element for the determination of the time of construction can be taken from the picture of the Worship of kings (Adorazione die Magi). This scene was created by Bernardino Luini (or under his direction by his pupils) around the middle of the 16th century as a fresco above the altar.»[2]

The painting Worship of the kings

The frescoes and paintings of the old church, some from the 16th century, are now in the new parish church of Santa Lucia in Massagno, a few hundred metres from the square of the old church. The 16th century fresco Adorazione dei Magi (Worship of the kings) from the school of Bernardino Luini, located in the old church, was transferred to canvas and can be seen in the new church, as well as the paintings Annunciazione (Annunciation, 1636) and Santa Lucia (17th century).[3]
