Angus Maclaine

Angus Gillean Mathew Maclaine, Younger of Lochbuie[1] is the 27th hereditary Chief of Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fundamental Media,[2] a renowned international media planning and research company. Angus was born in Durban, South Africa, and was educated at Kearsney College and the University of Natal (Howard College)[3] and is the son of Lorne Maclaine and Sandra Faulds. He currently resides in the United Kingdom.

Angus Gillean Mathew Maclaine – Tannist to Lorne, 26thof Lochbuie.

Angus was born on 25 January 1975 in Durban, South Africa.

Like his father, Angus attended Kearsney College in Natal, South Africa. Angus admits, "I did enough academic work to pass, but made better use of the sporting facilities". Angus participated in many sporting options but excelled at squash, sailing and shooting.

Following his studies, Angus spent three "gap years" indulging his yachting passion in the Mediterranean and Caribbean before pursuing a commercial career in London where he was employed by the Pearson Group as an Advertising Executive responsible for a suite of Financial Time’s magazines. It was during his service at Financial Times that Angus identified a gap in the advertising services industry - specifically, the provision of a research based media planning facility to serve financial institutions.

In 2004 he resigned from the Financial Times, and founded Fundamental Media. At the time of writing (July 2016), Fundamental Media has expanded from a single office with one employee – Angus – into a highly respected integrated international media service agency with offices in London, Boston, Hong Kong, Sydney and Dubai. Fundamental Media have been the recipients of multiple awards for their work in the UK and abroad, and Angus is a regular guest speaker at industry conventions. When asked to comment on Fundamental’s remarkable growth Angus responded "In four words – challenging, exhausting, immensely satisfying."

In his leisure time, Angus’ preferences are either water related activities, or in winter, skiing. He is a competent golfer and in his younger years raced motorcycles in the UK’s amateur league.

On 27 September 2018, Angus married Nina Boshoff at Botleys Mansion in Lyne, Chertsey, Surrey. Nina is daughter of Luna Boshoff of Fulham, London, and the late Toby Boshoff. Nina is a graduate of Bristol University.

Angus has three children – Cameron Gillean, born on 23 July 2001, Gregor Gillean, born on 5 April 2004, and Natalie, born on 3 March 2008.
