Anne Brunila

Anne Maritta Brunila (born 31 August 1957) was the Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Sustainability at Fortum Corporation from 2009 to 2013. She has a P.h.D in Economics and Business Administration from Helsinki School of Economics. Brunila has been described as "one of the most influential women in the Finnish economy[1]"

Biography

In 1983 Brunila's son suffered a brain damaging fever, resulting in him being unable to read or write as an adult.[2] In 2016 the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture tasked her with promoting the creative sector of the Finnish economy.[3] In 2012 she was chosen to select that years Finlandia Award that year. On October 12, 2012 she decided to resign from her position at Kone. However, she was unable to truly stop working at the company until 2013. She was replaced by Helena Aatinen. The reason she gave for her resignation was "I've had a long and varied career, and I've got to do interesting tasks, but I have always been a dream that at some stage of life I could start doing something new, and such things, which such a work does not necessarily have the time and the opportunity to bet. Now came such a moment that from the point of view of our own wishes and the company came the right stage to make this change. Among the plans do not scab more at this stage to tell, because I am here next spring at the office and in the field since then to develop these ideas." However, she actually resigned due to her sick father. She confirmed this when she said "My father had been seriously ill for a long time and I cared for him as much as I could. Of course, I was in a full-time job which limited care, but my dad required a lot of care and had to be ready to go for help all the time if something happened. In early summer, he then died. I had been working for a long time where I didn't really have any working hours at all. Even the holidays were such that you really had to be ready all the time. My own private life had shrunk to a pretty small size. I had a terribly interesting job that I enjoyed, but really nothing but that. My father's illness made me wonder if I had five years left in my life and continued my life the way I live now, I would have been happy when I had died and lived a good life in my opinion. I said I wouldn't. It wasn't the kind of life I wanted to live. I gathered all my courage, made the change, and resigned."
