Anne Catherine Hof Blinks
Anne Catherine Hof Blinks (1903-1995[1]) was an American botanist and textiles scholar.
She studied marine biology at Harvard University.[2] She worked at the Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University and Harvard University Herbaria and primarily studied and curated algae.[3] Species that she classified included Derbesia osterhoutii (L.R.Blinks & A.C.H.Blinks) J.Z.Page from Great Sound, Bermuda, initially classified as Halicystis osterhoutii L.R.Blinks & A.C.H.Blinks.[4]
She was also known for her work on historic and pre-historical textiles and made a collection of textiles for historical study.[5] She took an experimental archaeology approach through attempting ancient methods of fibre preparation and weaving methods. She was particularly interested in South American textiles and also in the genetics and breeding of sheep for particular fleece characteristics.[2]
Personal life
She was married to Lawrence Rogers Blinks (1900-1989), Professor of Biology at Stanford and Director of Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove from 1943 to 1965. They had a child, John Rogers Blinks.[1]
Legacy
The Anne Hof Blinks Fellowship in Marine Biology was established in her memory to support students from diverse backgrounds.
