History

1914–1930

The son of a famous bicycle seat manufacturer, John Boultbee Brooks, in 1914, decided to enter the market of passenger luggage, producing leather wardrobe trunks for ocean voyages and unique motor trunks, which were attached to cars.[2] A keen interest in wildlife, led to the adoption of the stag's head and antlers as the official brand symbol, for the luggage line, and has remained to this day.

1939–1945

Through necessity, Antler started producing haversacks, webbing belts and military equipment. After World War II, there was return to the luggage business, with innovation playing their part again, with the development of soft sided luggage.

1950s

Tourism boomed in the 1950s, as air travel became more accessible, and affordable. Antler needed to adjust to consumer demands, with products that combined soft and hard materials and fabrics, in one suitcase.

1960s

Antler moved from the Midlands to Bury, North Manchester, in 1962. Antler also had sites in Mossley, Littleborough, and Exeter. Antler employed four hundred workers in 1965, and exported their products internationally.

Today

The team of Midland of Lloyds Development Capital (L.D.C.) backed the management buyout of luggage brand Antler, in May 2010.[3][4]

Antler then left its headquarters in Bury, Greater Manchester, in May 2013, to relocate in Central London.[5] This relocation was followed by more changes, in the subsequent years, and most notably the relaunch of RevelationLondon, the sister brand of Antler, in January 2016.[6] Antler was sold to Endless LLP, in July 2017.[7]

Antler was sold to ATR Holdings in February 2020 [8] but went into administration on 18 May 2020. The company announced it was out of administration on 20 July 2020, as registered company ATR Brands Ltd, trading as Antler. The new company has its headquarters on Dover Street, London.
