Biography

Rautiainen lived in Russia from 1999 to 2012, where he studied mathematics at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in Moscow, later working in the IT field. Rautiainen was also involved in the activities of local anarchist groups and, among other things, participated in violent clashes with local neo-Nazis. In April 2012, he was classified as a security threat by the Russian authorities and Rautiainen's residence permit was no longer renewed, so he was deported.[1] In November 2013, the Tyumen Prosecutor's Office banned one of Rautiainen's article that was published in a Russian opinion newspaper two years earlier, labeling it as "extremist".[2]

Rautiainen's first book Planeetan suurin ja viilein – tositarinoita Venäjältä was published in April 2012. In addition, under the pseudonym Veli Itäläinen, Rautiainen translated Exodus by Russian author Peter Silayev, who had been granted asylum in Finland.[3]
