Early life

In 1935, Gensler was born as Millard Arthur Gensler in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. Gensler's father was Millard Arthur Gensler, Sr., aka "Slats". Gensler's father was an architectural sales rep who sold ceiling tiles.[1]

Education

Career

In 1965, Gensler founded M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates Inc., an architecture firm, now known as Gensler.[1] In 2010, Gensler stepped down as the firm's chairman.[3] Though, as of March 2017, he still served as an adviser for the firm.[4]

Philanthropy

In 2021, Art made a $10 million gift to Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). The AAP program was created in 2006 through a joint vision between Gensler and the then dean of the college. The donation was made to enable the college to fund its New York City satellite program in perpetuity. As a result of the gift, the New York City location will be renamed to the Gensler Family AAP NYC Center.[7][8]

Gensler is a golf professional in San Diego, California.[11] Gensler's son Kenneth Gensler is an airline pilot.[1]
