Art Linson

Artist Linson (born 1942) is an American film producer, director and screenwriter.[1]

Life and career

Linson was born in Chicago, Illinois. He did his undergraduate work at the University of California-Berkeley and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles law school.

Art Linson's has produced a hit movie every decade since the seventies. Into the Wild, Fight Club, The Untouchables, Heat, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Scrooged, to unusual classics such as American Hot Wax, Melvin and Howard, The Edge, and This Boy's Life. Linson's producer/director collaborations include Brian De Palma, David Mamet and Cameron Crowe.

His directorial debut was the 1980 comedy, Where the Buffalo Roam, which was loosely based on stories by Hunter S. Thompson and starred Bill Murray as the writer.

His writing credits include two books, What Just Happened? Bitter Hollywood Tales from the Front Line, which was adapted into a film from his original screenplay What Just Happened and starred Robert De Niro, and A Pound of Flesh: Perilous Tales of How to Produce Movies in Hollywood.

He is married to British actress Fiona Lewis.

Art was an executive producer on the FX television series Sons of Anarchy. The series's third season attracted an average of 4.9 million weekly viewers, making it FX's highest rated series at the time, surpassing its other hits The Shield, Nip/Tuck, and Rescue Me. The season 4 and 5 premieres were the two highest-rated telecasts in FX's history.[2] Art is currently an executive producer on the television series Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner. Yellowstone premiered on June 20, 2018 on the Paramount Network.The first season of Yellowstone averaged 5.1 million total viewers per episode, making it 2018's most-watched new cable series and ranking second across all cable TV series for the year. In June 2019, Paramount Network renewed the series for a third season.

In 2016, Art produced and penned the movie The Comedian directed by Taylor Hackford. The film starred Robert De Niro and Leslie Mann. Also in 2016 Art produced The Outsider, a crime drama film directed by Martin Zandvliet and written by Andrew Baldwin. The film stars Oscar winner Jared Leto and Tadanobu Asano.[3]
