Early career as a singer

Ashalatha lost her father at a very young age, but several big names in the music field became her godfathers. She got introduced to Yesudas at an age of 16 and impressed with her voice, she was called the very next day to sing at Tharangini Studios. She became an inseparable part of Tharangini and during the 1985-1990 period, Ashalatha went on to sing in 25 Malayalam films, 20 Tamil and 1 Telugu film.[3]

Career as radio jockey

After marriage, she joined a radio station in Dubai in 1995 and became a programme producer. In 2005, she returned to Kerala to join as the Head of Marketing at Joy Alukkas, a leading group in the field of jewelery marketing. She hosted the Hello Joy Alukas, a phone-in show hosted by Kochi FM Radio which made Ashalatha a favorite RJ among Malayalee listeners all over the world.[4] She hosted the programme along with Balakrishnan and they were fondly called as Ashechi and Balettan by the listeners.[5]
