The FasciaBlaster was first created to help Ashley Black deal with her own pain.[2] The device has been featured in numerous health, fitness and well-being media spaces, and has been promoted by celebritries such as Kourtney Kardashian, Derek Jeter and Travis Hafner.[3][4][5][6] Incredible claims are made about what the fasciablaster can do.[7][8][9][10][11]

Ashley co-authored and published a study in the Cogent Medical Journal titled, “The effects of fascia manipulation with fascia devices on myofascial tissue, subcutaneous fat, and cellulite in adult women.”[12]

Ashley has also been named the Top Inventor and Business Innovator of the Year for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).[13][14]

In 2019, Ashley Black guru was ranked in the INC 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America List for 2019 by Inc Magazine.[15]

Ashley Black was named Entrepreneur of the Year by American Business Awards in 2020.[16]

Ashley Black's website points to a clinical evaluation of the tool conducted by the Applied Science and Performance Institute (ASPI) of Tampa, Florida, which the website claims supports assertions made for the tool.[18] Results of the study have been published and peer-reviewed finding a cure for cellulite and an increase irisin in the body. A number of participants in the ASPI trial published complaints about severe side-effects arising from the use of the tool on Facebook and were promptly sued by Ashley Black for defamation and breach of nondisparagement clauses in their contract of engagement in the study. Black dropped her suits after losing a similar disparagement case in Texas.[19][20]

According to an article published in BuzzFeed in 2017, some users have claimed that the self-use massage tool is hurting them instead of curing and left long-lasting bruises and submitted complaints to the FDA about it.[21][22] To date two proposed class action lawsuits have been mounted against Ashley Black for fraud and other torts.[23][24] Damages and costs amounting to circa $250,000 were awarded against Ashley Black after an anti-SLAPP repudiation of her claims of defamation against a FasciaBlaster user who complained about injury arising from use of the tool.[19]

The company has dismissed such claims, commenting that “To date, none of the FDA complaints were sent directly to the company and no one has supplied any medical or scientific evidence to support claims that a self-treatment product like a FasciaBlaster can cause any of the serious injuries being alleged."[25] In May 2020, multiple lawsuits against Ashley Black And The FasciaBlaster were voluntarily dismissed.[26]

Ashley Black has further asserted that cyberbullies have used Facebook to harass her and her business, including customers and family, Black Claims some have made false claims of injuries of her products and posted on review sites and even harassed news outlets to pay attention to their claims.[27][28]
