Biography

He was born in Avellaneda (Buenos Aires Province), the son of Augusto Emilio Mallié and Julia Rouquaud Périchon,[3] belonging to a distinguished family of French origin.[4] His maternal grandfather Ernesto Rouquaud, was an outstanding industrialist who took an active part in the exploration and colonization of Patagonia.[5]

After finishing his studies in the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, Augusto Mallié began his career as clerk of the General Archive of the Argentine Nation. In 1923 he was appointed head of the General Archive in replacement of Juan José Comas.[6] He had a preponderant role in the Archive General de la Nación Argentina, taking care of the final stage of the transcriptions of the Acuerdos del extinguido Cabildo de Buenos Aires, a series of books that compiles the government records of the Cabildo de Buenos Aires until its dissolution in 1821.[7] Under his administration it was also published Tomas de razón de despachos militares, a work that contains the historical records of the military and political personnel of the colonial and post-colonial period of Argentina.[8]

Augusto Mallié took part in the reorganization of the Archivo General de la Nación Argentina, taking charge of classifying it into various sections, and also incorporated the possibility of donating private records.[9] He served in the Institution until his death occurred on September 21, 1929 in Tucumán Province.[10]
