Baldwin County Sheriff's Office (Alabama)

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, is the primary law enforcement agency for unincorporated areas of Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. As a constitutional officer the Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer within his County. The current sheriff is Huey H. Mack. Sheriff Mack joined the Sheriff's Office in 1989 as a Criminal Investigator.

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office was established in 1809. The first sheriff, Benjamin Baldwin, was appointed on the 21 December. Baldwin County is located in the south west of Alabama. Currently the office serves a population of approximately 218,022 people in a 2,027-square-mile (5,250 km2) patrol area. This area encompasses city, suburban and rural type settings.[1]

Structure

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office is divided into the following divisions:

  • Patrol Division: responsible for answering calls for service from citizens and protecting the public from criminal activity. Along with the service of criminal processes such as arrest warrants and subpoenas.
  • Investigations Division: responsible for investigating crimes that occur throughout the county; the division is made up of the Violent Crimes Unit, and the Felony Crimes Unit, which in turn oversee several task forces.
  • Civil Division: responsible for subpoenas, evictions, garnishments, divorce papers, small claims, writs, executions, protection from abuse orders, and various other civil processes.
  • Budget and Finance Division: responsible for the accounting needs of the Sheriff's Office, including wages, purchases and other expenses.
  • Warrants Division: responsible for processing arrest warrants, as well as tracking and processing all incident reports generated by sworn deputies.
  • Corrections Division: responsible for safely and securely operating the Sheriff's Correction Center. This is separated into the:
    • Operations Division: responsible for the daily safe and secure operation of the facility including all officers assigned to direct management of inmates.
    • Support Services Division: responsible for providing all support services needed to run the facility including the food service, postal service, inmate commissary, visitation, records and inmate transportation.
    • Inmate Management Division: responsible for intake and release of all inmates, including the docket room, inmate classification and transportation and liaising with the courts.
    • Medical Service Unit: responsible for providing a full-service medical and dental facility inside the correction center.
  • Communications Division: responsible for the processing and dispatching of all emergency calls received from the general public, 911 center or other law enforcement agencies.
  • Training Division: responsible for training and continued education for Law Enforcement Officers through out the Southeast, in partnership with the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOST).
