Barila Sharif
Barilla Sharif بڑیلہ شریف is a village in Gujrat District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is one of the oldest villages in Gujrat. It is around 38 Kilometers away from Gujrat City and 25 Kilometers from Jalalpur Jattan جلال پورجٹاں.
Barilla is known for a grave discovered in 1902 b.c. which legend says is that of Qanbeet, a biblical son of Adam. Although the tale of Qanbeet is not true as most of the indigenous people who had seen the grave before its expansion do not believe.
There's a large hall where a grave is marked by white marble and visitors visit this place during day time before the evening. There is a khanqah of "Peer Sachyar" in the courtyard of the shrine. There is another grave of some saint built in 2005 right near the feet of Qanbeet's Grave outside of the hall.
This village is also famous for another shrine of a Muslim saint who stayed at the grave of Qambeet and got famous as a saint. People from all around Punjab come and stay in the rooms built within the boundary of the shrine.
As most of the villager's ideology of living has been developed by these shrines no one in this village has contributed to the educational system. Most of the population is illiterate and some private schools were built based on this dogma, to collect money from poor villagers. Those villagers who were unable to smuggle their kids to different countries still live in the village.
The aristocracy was broken during WWII and Second Industrial Revolution when agriculture decline and urbanization started.
