Barkot, Uttarakhand

Barkot is a town and a nagar palika in Uttarkashi District in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna river. Barkot is the last big town near Yamunotri Dham. There are many village near Barkot city Uprari, Sara, Chakargaon, Paunti, Sunaldi, Dandagaon, Chatanga.

Education at Barkot

At present, there are many institutes of education in Barkot. In ancient times there was a very shortage of education here, but in the present time many colleges have opened here. Currently there is a Government Degree College, Government ITI, Government Inter College Government Polytechnic College, Government Girls Inter College. There are also private schools such Suman Grammar Inter College, HillGreen Inter College, Vidya Mandir Inter College, and in addition to manykidds private schools, where one can get good education.

Barkot has an average literacy rate of 84.5%, higher than the national average of 74%; with 93% of the males and 77% of females literate. 54% of the population is under 6 years of age.
