Beaches & Canyons

Beaches & Canyons is the first full-length album by experimental noise band Black Dice. It was named the 9th best album of 2000–2009 by Tiny Mix Tapes.[7] (It is not to be confused with the 1997 compilation of the same name by the Los Angeles-based indie-rock trio, The Summer Hits.)[8]

Recording

This album presents a transition in sound for Black Dice, specifically from Hardcore to a more experimental, meditative sound.[9] When asked about their change in direction, band member Eric Copeland said: "Our shows used to be 'all songs.' Then it would be songs with these long transitions between things, instead of just flat or silent. When Aaron came along, we got better at that stuff, and that became more what we wanted to play. Playing the songs became secondary".[10]
