Plot

The film starts off with the capture of a village man who had wondered towards the Kandy kingdom. During this time Kande Nuwara (Kandy) has been kept as an unpolluted, untouched from foreigners and a place of importance in order to preserve the countries Kandyan legacy, therefore spies have been deployed in and around to notify the village head (Hure)(Sriyantha Mendis) of any enemy entering the Kandyan territory. The person is being whipped by the faction and the men call upon their leader Hure to come and assess the situation. Sriyantha Mendis (Hure) who is a powerful man with knowledge in Nadi Wedhaya and Astrology, simply by checking the pulse of the suspect says that the man is an innocent needing food not a spy. However even with extra superstitious powers and knowledge Hure is highly saddened because his wife couldn't bear a son of his own, as a result Hure had married his wife s sister but to no avail. Its Hures best friend and assistant(Jayaloath Manorathna) who suggests marrying the youngest sister in order to continue his legacy. Meanwhile, The Englishmen who had built the railway till Ambepussa had plans to continue it to Kandy. The village heads are doubtful of the path ahead due to bahirawayas protecting the Kandy kingdom. However the head engineer Thomas takes lead in the constructions. Thomas is a highly adaptive person who falls in love with a young village girl Punchimanike who happens to be the youngest sister of Hures wives. Punchimanike too falls in love with the engineer, however Thomas is heavily injured in a site accident and is sent to England and later his leg amputated. With time Punchimanike caves in to her mothers woes and agrees to marry Hure. Hure is jubilant in becoming a father. However he is driven mad and suicidal after seeing the baby's pale skin and the blue eyes. He becomes demented and shouts that this land is finished and everything in it is finished and jumps to the newly built oncoming train.
