Bijoy Prasad Singh Roy

Bijoy Prasad Singh Roy (* 1894 in Calcutta , † November 24, 1961 ibid) was an Indian politician and cousin and private secretary of the Maharaja of Benares, Aditya Narayan Singh .

Biography

Singh Roy studied at the Hindu School and the Presidency University, Kolkata, received a Bachelor and Master of Laws from the Law College Kolkata and later a lawyer at Calcutta High Court .

In 1921 Roy was elected to the Bengal Legislative Council in British India and was Minister of Local Self-Government in 1930. On April 1, 1932, he introduced a bill on municipal code.[1] Singh Roy was Sheriff of Calcutta and from 1937 to 1941 in the cabinet of AK Fazlul Huq for the Treasury in Bengal responsible. From 1943 to 1947 he was chairman of the Bengal Legislative Assembly.[2][3][4]

In 1947 Roy was the President of the Calcutta Club.[5] After the first India-Pakistan war, he gave a speech on an Indo-Pakistani agreement on July 6th, 1950 All India Radio.[6]

From 1958 to 1959, Singh Roy was Chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).[7]
