Blackwoods is made using botanicals from Shetland, which are handpicked and give Blackwoods its distinctive taste. Each harvest, which includes angelica, marsh marigold, sea pink and meadowsweet, is determined by the plants and herbs available on the islands.[1]

The brand was originally made in the Blackwood distillery in Scotland but is now made in a distillery run by the Palmer family that has been making gin since 1920.[2] Blackwoods uses a small copper still produced by John Dore & Co. It comes in various strengths, including 40% ABV for most markets (43% for the US market) and a limited edition 60% ABV.

Distil Plc also produces a Blackwoods Premium Vodka using similar Shetland botanicals.
