Brave New Words: The Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards
Brave New Words: The Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards is a gala, held annually in April in Winnipeg, Manitoba, celebrating the best of Manitoban publishing from the previous year. Brave New Words celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2008.
Depending on the year, there are several awards conferred, as some of the awards are only bestowed biannually. The awards are co-produced by the Association of Manitoba Book Publishers and the Manitoba Writers' Guild.
Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry
Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry/prix Lansdowne de poésie, established in 2007, was awarded annually to the best full length adult book of poetry in either French or English by a resident of Manitoba, Canada. One of the Brave New Words Awards, it was originally known as the Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. Late in 2007, it was renamed after the new sponsor Aqua Books, and also to reflect the bilingual nature of the award. The Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry Reading Series, hosted in conjunction with The Writers' Collective, was based on this award. Aqua Books closed in early 2012,[1] although they continued to sponsor the award through 2013. In 2014, the award was presented by the Manitoba Writers Guild.
