The album was originally an EP entitled The Broken Parachute EP. It was slated for a summer 2006 release and contained 2 acoustic versions of previous songs, an alternate version, a cover song, and an unreleased track. The date was constantly pushed back for "legal rights issues." Finally, in March 2007, Speak Music Media issued a statement on their Myspace that the EP had been expanded into a full-length album after band frontman Nick Torres discovered a three-song demo predating Is This Thing Loaded?. The release also contains an alternate version of another song, bringing the track count to nine songs.
