Brooklyn Municipal Building

The Brooklyn Municipal Building was built in 1924.[1] Designed by McKenzie, Voorhees & Gmelin,[2] the construction cost $5,800,000.[3] It is located at 210 Joralemon Street. It contains: the city clerk office (with a marriage bureau);[4] and offices for the Departments of Buildings, Probation, Finance, and Environmental Protection.[5] In July 2012 the Landmark Preservation Commission approved an upgrade to the first few stories and add much commercial signage.[6] In 2016 renovation was done on two cellar levels and two floors.[7] In 2020 it was announced that the building would be renamed for the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who lived in Brooklyn.[8] Mayor Bill de Blasio attributed this honor to illustrating to the locals about the “great things on the world stage,” this Brooklyner had done.[9]
