Bungei (magazine)

Bungei (文藝, "Fiction") is a Japanese literary magazine, published by Kawade Shobō Shinsha. It was founded in 1933, and was originally published monthly, but became a quarterly in the 1980s. The magazine oversees the Bungei Prize, an open competition for discovering new writers. Writers such as Yasuo Tanaka, Akemi Hotta, Risa Wataya, and Natsu Minami are former prize-winners.

Along with Shinchō, Gunzo, Bungakukai and Subaru, it is one of the five leading literary journals in Japan.
