CRAG-VT

CRAG-VT (Climbing Resource Access Group Vermont) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to preserving access and conservation of Vermont's rock and ice climbing resources. It is an Access Fund Local Climber Organization (LCO).

Projects

Bolton Dome

On September 25, 2018, CRAG-VT signed a purchase agreement for The Bolton Dome. The Bolton Dome was once the area's most popular climbing spot in the 1970s and 1980s, but it was closed in 1993 due to a conflict between the rock climbers and the land owner.[1] CRAG-VT purchased the entire 48-acre parcel in 2018, including the 2-acre house site that was subdivided and sold.[2] A $350,000 loan from The Access Fund supported the purchase of the property. The property was subdivided, which will keep the actual cliff protected for climbers.

Rock Point

An agreement reached in November 2017 allows rock climbers to climb at Rock Point once again.[3] The agreement came with some new rules the climbers have to follow. Climbers must buy a Rock Point Pass ($5 per day for adults, or $35 per year) and sign in and out at a kiosk. Maximum of 8 climbers are allowed to be climbing at one given time. Rock Point is only open during daylight hours and no camping is permitted.[4]

Climbing areas

Since its incorporation in 2002, CRAG-VT has acquired three climbing areas in Bolton, Vermont: Lower West Bolton Cliff, Upper West Bolton Cliff, and in 2014, the Bolton Quarry[5]. In 2009, CRAG-VT began a project to acquire the cliff known as the Carcass Crag by a boundary adjustment on their Bolton Quarry property.[6]
