Carlos Chandía

Carlos Luis Chandía Alarcón known as Carlos Chandía (born 14 November 1964) was a Chilean international football referee[1] and now Mayor of Coihueco.[2]

Referee career

Born in Chillán, Chile, Chandía was member of FIFA in 2001-09 and officiated 13 international matches, 8 matches in World Cup qualifying (CONMEBOL zone) 2006 (3) and 2010 (5), 2 matches in 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup and 4 matches in 2007 Copa América.[3] He appointed two penalty kick in 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup semi final match played Germany-Brazil (2:3) one each team and all of them converted by Michael Ballack and Ronaldinho.[4] He gave totally 2 red cards.

In club football he officiated 58 Copa Libertadores matches in 2002-2009 include 3 finals (2004, 2008 and 2009), 20 Copa Sudamericana matches in 2003-2009 and 3 Recopa Sudamericana matches in 2005-09. He also refereed 2005 FIFA Club World Championship semi final match that played between Saprissa-Liverpool 0:3. He officiated 69 matches in Chilean Primera División in 2008-09.[5] In 2008 Copa Sudamericana match played between Estudiantes de La Plata and Botafogo, Botafogo defender André Luís took the card from his hand and Chandía sent off the defender.[6]

Successes

Carlos Chandía was voted best Chilean referee four times.[7][8]
