Charla Doherty

Charla Doherty (August 6, 1946 May 29, 1988)[1] was an American actress.

Early years

Doherty was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a graduate of Hollywood Professional School, and she studied at UCLA.[2]

Career

Doherty had short-term roles on Wagon Train and Dr. Kildare and then originated the role of Julie Olson on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Doherty played the role from 1965 until she left the series in late 1966. She also played the role of Melinda Neilson in the 1963 season of Leave It to Beaver. Doherty's film credits include Village of the Giants (1965) and Take Her, She's Mine (1963).[2] She played the role of Joanna Ramsey in the 1967 made-for-television movie In the Year 2889.[3]

She played Robbie’s girlfriend Ellen in a December 3rd, 1964 episode of “My Three Sons”.[4]

She also directed and starred in local theater productions and was active in a non-profit group that fed the homeless.

Death

Doherty died in 1988 at the age of 41. She died of natural causes at her mother's home in Woodland Hills, California on May 29, 1988. She was survived by her son Trevor Black and her mother Toni Doherty.[5]

The cause of death was listed as pancreatitis, due to chronic alcoholism.
