Chemical Geology publishes original research papers on isotopic and elemental geochemistry, geochronology and cosmochemistry.

The journal focuses on chemical processes in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary petrology, low- and high-temperature aqueous solutions, biogeochemistry, the environment and cosmochemistry.

According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2018 impact factor of 3.618. It slightly decreases to 3.362 in 2019.[4]
