Chill Out Zone

The Chill Out Zone was a long-running TV show which first appeared on MTV Europe in late 1993. Its main focus lied on ambient music, laidback house, trip hop, jungle and chillout trance and other forms of underground experimental music, both recent and classic.

Although no longer scheduled on MTV Europe since August 2010, the show was still carried by a small number of localized MTV feeds across Europe every weekend in the early morning hours until 2017, typically on Saturday and/or Sunday between 02:00 and 06:00 a.m. CET. Throughout its entire history, the show always preserved its original format, consisting in a non-stop selection of experimental and rarely seen music videos. Classic artists played on Chill Out Zone throughout its 3 decades on air include: Future Sound Of London, Radio Massacre International, Aphex Twin, The Orb, Orbital, William Orbit, Massive Attack, Portishead, Lazonby, Josh Wink and Biosphere. Chill Out Zone was also the only program on TV where a number of excerpts taken from the classic '90's 3Lux and X-Mix video series released by !K7 would appear on a regular basis.

MTV Adria (South-Eastern Europe) was the last MTV channel in Europe to keep the show in its schedule, where it was programmed every Friday and Saturday late night until summer 2017. Over its last 5 years on air, MTV Adria's Chill Out Zone unearthed thousands of rare classic clips from the MTV vaults in London, the vast majority of which hadn't been played on the show since the 1990s or early 2000s.
