Chinese government award for outstanding self finance students abroad
The Chinese government award for outstanding self-financed students abroad is an cash award established by the China Scholarship Council in 2003 for graduate students studying abroad.
The government chooses recipients annually based on a record of outstanding accomplishments during their PhD studies in any discipline.[1] This award is the highest award the government gives to graduate students studying outside China. These students do not receive financial support from the Chinese government.[2]
To date, the recipients include Chinese students studying in 33 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Canada.[3]
The number of Chinese students leaving China to study abroad is more than half a million each year, making this award highly competitive. Currently, there are 500 students awarded yearly. Among them, ten extraordinary prizes go to the top awardees with a $10000 cash award and a certificate; the rest of the receipts win a one-time $6000 cash award and a certificate.[4]
