At the age of 18, Kim played for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the American third division, a club then known for their young team.[2]
After that, he played for Alemannia Aachen in the German second division and Lierse S.K. in the Belgian top flight but never made a league appearance for either team.
Kim joined California Victory for 2007. During the last game of the season, after receiving a red card, he "ran to the supporters’ section, threw his jersey to a fan, and dove into the arms of his loving fans”.[3]
