Civilization One (band)

Civilization One was launched in 2006 by singer Chitral Somapala (currently or formerly associated with Red Circuit, Court Jester, Ivanhoe, Domain, Avalon, Powerworld, Moonlight Agony, David Shankle Group, Power Quest, Firewind and Faro)[1] together with guitarist Aldo Lanobile (of Secret Sphere), Simone Campete, Pierre-Emmanuel Pelisson (of Maladaptive, formerly of Heavenly)[1] and Luca Cartasegna (of Secret Sphere). Their intention was to found a band which combines hard and aggressive riffs, the sensitivity of classical music, memorable vocals and choruses, as was achieved by classic heavy metal bands.

Distance and other obstacles between the original band members made it impossible to play live. By the end of 2007, the line up of Civilization One had begun to change. Only two of the original members, Somapala and bassist Pelisson, stayed; Christian Muenzer (of Majesty, formerly of Necrophagist) joined the band as the lead guitarist.[1] He was followed by Boern Daigger (of Majesty and R:I:P) as second guitarist.[1] At the beginning of 2008, Holly Rodammer (formerly of Ancient Ceremony and Hellmasters) was announced as the new drummer.[1] While the line-up changed, the band received increased attention due to their performance at the PogPower UK Pre-Party in 2007.

In November 2008 and October 2009, Civilization One were invited by TNL (the biggest rock music radio station in Sri Lanka) to perform as the main act at the TNL Onstage Finals in Colombo. This was the first time a western-style heavy metal band had performed in Sri Lanka.[2]

The band's line-up changed again in 2009. Guitarists Nicklaus Bergen (of MINIER Nicolas) and Oliver Marmann and drummer Michael Stein replaced the previous musicians.

Their debut album Revolution Rising was recorded in studios in France, Italy and Germany and was mixed and mastered by Markus Teske (of Vanden Plas, Mob Rules, Dominici, Symphony X and Red Circuit).[2] The band finished recording its second album, Calling the Gods, in 2012.[2]
