Crabtree Ponds

Crabtree Ponds is a Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham nature reserve located in the Fir Vale area of Sheffield. [1]

History

The ponds date back to the 19th Century, having originally been built for the gardens of Crabtree Lodge.[2][3]

Wildlife

A number of fish and amphibian species can be found at the reserve, including rudd, crucian carp, sticklebacks, palmate newt as well as frogs and toads. The woodland surrounding the ponds contain mainly sycamore, poplar and ash trees which are home to blue tits, great tits, treecreepers, woodpeckers and wrens.[4]
