History

d'Overbroeck's was founded in 1977 as a sixth form by Malcolm van Biervliet D'Overbroeck.[1] He taught French and Spanish at the school for 30 years until 2007 when he retired.[2] It first premises was at van Biervliets house.[3]

Years 7-11

d'Overbroeck's Years 7-11 is located on Leckford Place in north Oxford and is dedicated to UK day students. Students at Years 7-11 study a broad curriculum covering a full range of subjects in the sciences, humanities, arts and modern languages.[4] This also includes music, drama and sport, both as curriculum subjects and as extracurricular activities.[4]

The International School

The International School is a small yet diverse international boarding school community located at 111 Banbury Road, in north Oxford. In 2020, the school accommodates over 90 students from countries all over the world, including the United States, Lithuania, Ukraine and Thailand.[5] The International School currently offers five flexible academic programmes to international students:

  • The Discovery Years (UK Years 7-9 and new from September 2021)[6]
  • Two-Year IGCSE (UK Years 10-11)[7]
  • One-Year IGCSE (UK Year 11)[8]
  • 4 or 5-Term IGCSE (UK Year 10)[9]
  • UK Study Abroad (UK Years 9-10)[10]

Key features of The International School include:[5]

  • Tailored programmes for English Language to help students develop confidence in their new language skills
  • Small class sizes, with a maximum of 11 students per lesson
  • A supportive learning environment in which students study alongside other international students at the same point in their academic careers
  • A full British experience including regular integration with our British Years 7-11 and Sixth Form students during activities such as sport, art, music and drama
  • A central Oxford location where students can benefit from the wide variety of academic, cultural and leisure opportunities on their doorstep

Approximately half of International School students continue on to study at d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form whilst others choose to progress on to other leading UK schools.[5] Some may prefer to progress on to an IB programme, others may prefer a change of locations or a leading single-sex school for their sixth form studies.[5]

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form is based at 333 Banbury Road, in north Oxford and is the oldest part of d'Overbroeck's.

Students at d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form study the traditional two-year A-Level programme and can choose to study for an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) alongside their A-Level studies.[11]
