The soundtrack topped the Billboard 200 chart in 1995. By December 1995, it was certified triple platinum by the RIAA, for shipments exceeding 3,000,000 copies in the United States.

Release and reception

The album reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and reached the second spot on the R&B albums chart.[1] The album was certified platinum in September 1995 and triple platinum by December of the same year.[2]

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic called the soundtrack "an expertly-crafted urban R&B/hip-hop collection, featuring stellar production and songwriting from a number of the best and most popular artists of 1995."[3]
