Dar Al Fouad, West – 6TH of October: The History

The idea of establishing world-class medical care in Egypt with unique and high quality medical services originated in February 1992. The construction phase started in July 1996, the consultants during this phase were Egyptian, American and British architects such as:

  • RBSD, New York: An American company specialized in hospital design
  • BOVIS: Project consultants firm
  • Constain Samcrete: General contractor
  • Nile Aster for Electromechanics
  • Dr Shaker: Consultant Office

The hospital is located in the touristic area of the 6th of October City, 20 minutes from the center of Cairo, with a higher ground elevation of 150 meters than Cairo altitude. Moreover, 80% of the total land area is occupied with greeneries and parking space in order to ensure fresh air and relaxing atmosphere for patient recovery.

Hospital Building

The total land area of the facility is 42,000 square meters with a footprint of 24,000 square meters divided into three floors. In 2015, the construction of an expansion to the main building had been planned to accommodate the increasing number of patients; the annex building of 1,300 square meters consisting of two cellars and three floors was inaugurated in February 2017. Studio Altieri and RBSD, New York, developed the architectural designs of the building. Medhat Abu Zeid’s Office (MZECH) supervised the construction and advisory group Shaker (SCG) oversaw the building’s electro-mechanics.

Dar Al Fouad, East – Nasr City: The History

The project was designed by RBSD, New York, an American design office specializing in medical architecture, and designed more than 189 medical projects around the world. The project is distinguished by its unique location in Nasr City, East of Cairo. Its location is close to the main axes of the area such as Salah Salem Street leading to Heliopolis, Cairo International Airport which is only 15 minutes away from the project, the 6th of October Bridge leading to the city center and the ring road leading to New Cairo and Maadi.

  • Combined Oncology Clinics: The cancer patient is consulted by the oncology physician and the oncosurgeon during the same session and the treatment protocol is designed by both doctors and tailored for each patient individually.
  • Full investigations are available in the same place: PET CT, MRI, Regular CT and Pathological Evaluation.

Stroke Unit

Accreditation of Dar Al Fouad's Stroke Unit

In November 2017, Dar Al Fouad’s stroke unit has become the first of its kind Egypt to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and the number one cause of chronic disability in the world. Due to the high prevalence of many risk factors for stroke among Egypt’s population – including diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension and inactivity – the incidence of stroke is high. The JCI accreditation follows significant recent improvements in care for stroke patients with an outstanding achievement of a 37-minute window between the stroke patient’s arrival and the administration of the TPA. The multi-disciplinary nature of the care has contributed greatly to ensuring stroke patients in Dar Al Fouad receive the safest, most effective and compassionate care. The extensive team involved in the treatment for each stroke patient is central to the multi-disciplinary care patients receive. Stroke neurologists, rehabilitation physicians, stroke nurses, allied health professionals, stroke coordinators and clinical nurse specialists all provide their expertise to shape the treatment plan according to each patient’s individual needs.
