De Roman Montessori School

De Roman Montessori School (or simply DRMS) is a private school in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines.[2] It was founded in October 1994. The educational institution presently accommodates preschool,[3] elementary[4] and high school students.

History

The Little People's Montessori School was established in October 1994, having Maribelle Del Rosario Macam for its first teacher. Later, it was renamed De Roman Montessori School. At that time, the school accommodated preschool students only namely in the nursery, kindergarten and preparatory levels.

In the school year 2000–01, the school established its Grade 1 class which is the first step of the foundation of its elementary department. Also, during this school year, the construction of the new elementary building was undergoing.

During the school year 2001–02, the new elementary school building was finished and the Grade 1 class was transferred there. The Grade 2 and Grade 3 classes were started at the same time. Grade levels 4-6 was added one by one during the three next consecutive years.

The first elementary school graduates were officially commenced during the school year 2004-2005.

After two school years, De Roman Montessori School added the first year high school batch. High school year levels 2-4 were added during the three next consecutive school years. The first high school graduates were released during the school year 2009–10.

The school seals

The old seal

The school had a previous logo. It presents a golden outline of a girl and a boy in uniforms, with both of their arms extending sidewards on a golden background. It is encircled by a blue ring and the name of the school is written in uppercase letters within it.

The new seal

The school adopted a new logo during the school year 2001-2010. It presents a pair of hands holding a boy and a girl, making together a building model. There is a wreath to the left of the hand and three yellow rays of light shining on the boy and the girl. It is encircled by a yellow ring, and within it, the school's name in uppercase letters with the school's year of establishment.

Campus

The school has fully air-conditioned classrooms and also has its own library. It also equipped with its own science laboratory and computer laboratory with at least five working desktops and at least six working laptops, provided with a fast free internet connection. It also has a home economics room. The school has a covered court. During the summer of 2010, it has upgraded its canteen with a second floor. The campus is wireless internet ready.

At least monthly, the school holds different extracurricular programs, each with its own themes which changes annually.[5]

The order of the quiz bees are sometimes changed, but the quiz bees are usually held during those months. The quiz bees are a part of a week-long celebration of that subject, for example, Science. The first four days of the week are spent on various activities related to that subject like a poem writing contest for the English week.

The Valentine's and Teacher's Day celebration and the Math Quiz Bee are usually held in one day.

Publication

The Trailblazers is the official newsletter of De Roman Montessori School. It is made by the journalism class under the supervision of an English teacher. It contains news articles about the events in the school and features literary pieces and drawings like editorial cartoons and comic strips by the students.[6]

The school is affiliated with different groups namely: Cavite Association of Private Schools (CAPS), Cavite Organization of Montessori Educators (COME) and Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP).
