Dick Klaverdijk

Cornelis Wilhelmus Hubertus Maria “Dick” Klaverdijk (22 October 1946 – 26 July 2020) was a Dutch politician of the CDA party.[1] He was alderman of Arnhem (1985–1988) and mayor of Bergen (1988–2011).

Biography

Klaverdijk was born in Breda. In 1985 he became alderman in Arnhem. Three years later, in 1988, he was appointed mayor of the Limburg municipality of Bergen, succeeding his fellow party member Ed Meijer who became mayor of Stein. In Bergen he was an opponent of merging the municipalities Mook en Middelaar and Gennep, which was canceled in April 2011. He retired on 1 October 2011. He was at that time, after the mayor of Beuningen Huib Zijlmans, the longest active mayor of the same municipality. Klaverdijk died in Nieuw Bergen on 26 July 2020 at the age of 73.[2][3]
