Don't Breathe 2

Don't Breathe 2 is an upcoming American horror thriller film directed by Rodo Sayagues, from a screenplay co-written with Fede Álvarez. Produced by Sayagues, Álvarez, Sam Raimi, and Robert Tapert, the film will serve as a sequel to the 2016 film, with Stephen Lang returning to reprise his original role as Norman Nordstrom / "The Blind Man".

Premise

The Blind Man has been hiding out for several years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a devastating house fire. Their quiet life together is shattered when a group of criminals kidnap the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.[1][2]

Development

In November 2016, writer Fede Álvarez announced that a sequel was in the works, returning as director.[4] Producer Sam Raimi was quoted saying, "It's only the greatest idea for a sequel I've ever heard. I'm not kidding."[5] In November 2018, Álvarez said "They're just ideas right now. Nothing to announce officially. We do have a script for Don't Breathe 2. That's the only difference. We don't have a script for Evil Dead 2. But we do have a script for Don't Breathe 2 that we wrote."[6] He also said that "When I tweeted that I was interested in seeing what people prefer. We were having some internal debates about what people would be interested in most. Unfortunately, Evil Dead 2 won. Which, I guess I would have preferred Don't Breathe 2 to win because it's one of my own creations. Obviously Evil Dead has the bigger following."[7][8] In January 2020, Álvarez was replaced as director by co-writer Rodo Sayagues, making his directorial debut.[3][9]

Filming

Principal photography was scheduled to begin in April 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3][10][11] Filming officially began in mid-August 2020, shooting for 12 weeks,[12][13][14][15] in areas around Serbia, including the capital city of Belgrade.[16][17] Stephen Lang revealed that filming wrapped on October 8, 2020.[18][19]

Release

Don't Breathe 2 is scheduled to be theatrically released on August 13, 2021, by Sony Pictures Releasing.[20]
