Dušan Maksimović

Dušan Aron Maksimović (6 January 1940 Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, now Serbia - 27 June 1998) was a Yugoslav international football referee.[1]

Career

He was member of FIFA in 1973–80 and refereed seven international matches.[2] He officiated a 2nd group stage match in 1978 World Cup played between Germany–Italy (0:0), three matches in World Cup qualifying 1978 (2), 1982 (1), a match in EURO 1976 qualifying and 2 friendly matches. He also refereed a match in U20 World Cup 1977.

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (5), UEFA Cup (5) and Cup Winners Cup (1).[3] He also officiated 1978 UEFA Cup Final 1st leg match played between SC BastiaPSV Eindhoven (0:0).

Controversial episodes

There were three controversial decisions by Maksimović. Fans of big four football clubs of Yugoslavia claimed that he was "FK Partizan's referee". On July 11, 1976, FK Partizan traveled to Ljubljana for last match of 1975–76 Yugoslav First League. They need a victory for became a champion. He extended match until Partizan scored. Other matches where he decided controversial decisions were 1977 Intertoto Cup match played between FK Vojvodina and Maccabi Jaffa F.C. and 1982 World Cup qualifying match Malta-Poland.[4][5][6]
