Economy of Dhanbad

The economy of Dhanbad is famous for mining, utilities, retail, IT and cement etc. Dhanbad is the second largest city in Jharkhand, India: and in area also. In the terms of populations. It is 33rd in India in terms of population. It is called "The Coal Capital of India".[1]

Dhanbad Coalfield

Dhanbad is called "The Coal Capital of India". It is rich in coal. This led to the foundation and opening of many coal companies in Dhanbad. Bharat Coking Coal 's headquarters is in Dhanbad. This is a subsidiary of Central Coalfields. It is a coal mining company based and headquartered in Ranchi. Here are many coalfields. Dhanbad has many coal mining companies such as Central Coalfields and BCCL etc. In Dhanbad there are 112 mines. It is in the whole over in the city of Dhanbad.[2]

Hindustan Zinc (now Vedanta Resources) is a mining company of India. Its corporate office branch is in Dhanbad, and it has a pilot plant at Mugma. This company is specializing in mining several products and metals such as zinc, lead, silver, and cadmium.

Energy

Tata Power, an electrical and a power supply utility company, is based in Bombay (Mumbai). It is a part and a subsidiary of Tata Group. This company has built various utility and power plants across all of India. It is operating a plant in Dhanbad also, known as Maithon Power Plant at Maithon. Damodar Valley Corporation is operating and controlling several dams across Bengal and Jharkhand.

Maithon Dam is a dam in Maithon. This is one of the largest dams in India. This dam filters the water. It supplies water to the city of Dhanbad. This dam was specially designed for flood control and generates 60,000 kW of electric power. There is an underground power station, the first of its kind in the whole of South East Asia. Damodar Valley Corporation also operates and controls dams.

Metals and cement

Hindusthan Malleables & Forgings Limited is a company in Dhanbad. It has been manufacturing graded, malleable, S.G (ductile iron), manganese steel, and alloy steel castings. It is supported by well-equipped pattern shop, fettling and grinding Shop, heat treatment shop having bell and pit cycle annealing furnaces, machine shop, physical, chemical and metallographic testing facilities and spectrometer for chemical analysis. The company has been awarded ISO 9001-2008 and ISO / TS 16949–2009. It has a branch at Bhuli, Dhanbad.[3]

Cement

ACC (company) has set up a cement plant in Dhanbad. Its headquarter is in Mumbai (Bombay), Maharashtra, India. This company has set up cement plants in various places and cities of India. Dhanbad has a cement plant and corporate office branch at Sindri. ACC Cements is one of the largest cement manufacturing companies in India. This is one of the leading cements companies in India along with Ultra Tech Cement and Ambuja Cements etc.

Projects

Projects and Development India Limited and ACC. Ltd at Sindri have many projects in and across Dhanbad. Indian railway is also a big and large employer in Dhanbad. This is been a large company in Dhanbad since its opening and establishment.[4]

Information Technology

Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) set up its IT park branch at Dhanbad; it opened recently. Now Dhanbad will also become an IT hub. This IT Park will houses several IT and BPO companies. It is nearer to BIT Sindri. This IT Park was inaugurated by the chief minister Hemant Soren by online. It built at a cost of Rs 18.67 crore, this is the third STPI in Jharkhand, the other two being in Ranchi and in Jamshedpur. While the other is in Deoghar. [5]

Retail is a major economic part of Dhanbad. After Ranchi and Jamshedpur. Dhanbad has the higher number of shopping malls here. Many peoples from other cities come here in Dhanbad for marketing. Dhanbad has also several branded retail stores such as Trends, Max etc.[6]
